Ready To Shine

Hi there pals! I hope all is very well for you.

I had a nice time putting together this week's playlist, no real theme in mind, just a few artists and songs I'm digging as of late. There's newer and and newish stuff, a dash of nostalgia, a few that evoke some stories, and some picks are just plain ol' random.

Last evening and into this morning, CFCR participated in the 15th Annual Homelessness Marathon, a pan-Canadian initiative by campus and community radio stations to help raise awareness. CFCR has participated the last few years, and provided content via a few of our great shows including Laundry List and Civically Speaking, just to name a couple. Links to those shows available in the right sidebar -------> right over there!

There's some other links below you should check out too, for some upcoming shows, cool videos, and a link to a story about dearly departed Canadian broadcasting legend, Stuart McLean

Abide With Me

Greetings, pals in radio. Hope it's been a good week for you!

Today I had a trainee named Fintan in hosting with me. He's got a few shifts under his belt, so today he programmed most of the show. His sweet -- and mostly jazzy -- picks are below in blue.

I love being able to help budding hosts become acquainted with being on air. It always makes me fondly recollect the days when I was learning the ins and outs of the boards and all the knobs and doodads seven (!!) years ago. I can only hope to emulate the greats that trained me back in the day - and pass on the tips of the trade they so thoughtfully imparted on me!

Dream Invader

Hi! Happy Thursday!

I had a few sources of inspiration for this morning's show.

Some was sparked by lingering/permanent nostalgia for the vast community that was established at CBC Radio 3. Some dedicated writers and music enthusiasts from that blogging collective have since come together to create their own online indie music blog. A pal from Mexico had posted her playlist, and I had actually already had a few in common! And -- full disclosure, I borrowed a couple more other great ones too -- thanks Reg. ♥

I also wanted to express my sheer adoration for some wonderful local bands -- We Were Lovers and the Karpinka Brothers! Definitely two of my favourites. And the lovely wife of Shawn Karpinka, Alyssa, tipped me off about the enthralling voice of Margo Price. Lots of serendipitous musical occurrences happening this week, I must say.

Otherwise, I just wanted to share a fun flurry of wake-up goodness. I have some sweet links below for you to check out as well - please do!
