Hello!

It's been a bit - where'd October go?

We had another great run of FM-Phasis this year and a smashing good time celebrating our 25th year of being on air!

We've Got It

HI FOLKS!

How I have missed and thought about thee regularly.

Life has been busy, with great life developments, and awesome family vacations and occasions occurring. I was also away for a couple weeks, as indicated below. As always, an awesome fellow host stepped in during my break! What a great community of volunteers we've got here. :) Below are the playlists for the last few weeks - including June 30, July 7, 14 and 21, and August 11 and 18.

Now that the busy summer months are (kind of) winding down, I should be more prompt in keeping you lovely listeners up to date. I had a fellow call today during my show to ask about a song I had played last week, and it was a stark reminder - hey Kathy, get back on it!

Without further adieu:

Hello!

Today was a good day in radio. I wasn't feeling super chatty, but that's okay! It's about the music. :)

I have all sorts of cool links to peruse below, including upcoming local shows, including ones for Sled Island and Jazz Fest, a new EP (!!), and some artists that are on the long list for the Polaris Music Prize.

Also, I played Angel Olsen today. Her performance here in Saskatoon the other day was nothing short of stunning. She had the crowd at Amigos pin-drop quiet at several points, which at a typically chat-filled establishment, is rare. She is a swoon-worthy crooner, for certain.

Well, dat's it for another week. Lots of great music coming up, and as always, you can use our handy events page to keep up-to-date!

Until June 30,

There's lots of cool changes this year, like Free Community talks which are sure to be riveting, the sweet free stage, and a powerful handful of speakers.

All of today's artists are going to be performing on stages over the course of the next four days. If you want to view the whole schedule of goodness, it is available here (and it's printable too!) I had some double shots in there for ya.

I Can't Speak

Oh, hi there!

Another week in community radio. It's already June!

This week's AGM was a good one. We celebrated some folks who have been instrumental to our long-term success as a station. This time around, Sigrid Kirmse, Jeff Lee, and Ron Spizziri were given lifetime memberships. Hats off to these dedicated community radio advocates! We also have some great new board members, and had many wonderful candidates in the running.

Today's show was a bit of a musical roller coaster - an energetic start, a super-chill set following, some electronic infusion, and a smattering of upbeat, poppy and rocky tunes. I always have fun compiling these playlists and seeing them take shape. Rhyme and reason aren't usually huge factors, just feelin' it.

I played some B.A. Johnston, who will be at Amigos this coming Saturday, along with some other awesome acts. That will be an entertaining show, without a doubt. Be sure to check out what other awesome is coming up in Saskatoon.

One of These Days

Thursday, the end of May. How is almost half the year over already!?

Lots of great things going on in the city, upcoming shows and the like. You'll be able to find CFCR folk at a few events in the near future, namely Food Truck Wars and Pride festivities. Also, don't forget MoSo - it's sneakin' up quick and is only a couple weeks away.

Also, our Annual General Meeting is coming up next Tuesday, May 31. The time has passed to get nominations in for the vacant Board of Directors positions, but if you want to attend and be able vote, you have to have your valid membership by noon tomorrow - May 27. Yay for another wonderful year of Community Radio! Also, this is our 25th year on air! Ayo, Silver...anniversary!

Today's playlist was a cool one to compile. There were artists from a few different genres, a handful of forthcoming acts, and a sprinkling of other rad tunes. Played one of my many favourite Tragically Hip tunes today as well. Cancer sucks so much and touches way too many people. :( The band is embarking on tour with their illustrious frontman soon. Courage.

Lots of linky-loos to check out today, so be sure to give 'em a click!

Baby Give Up on It

Oh, hey. Happy Thursday!

Today's show was a gooder. I was in need of some musical uplifting, so I had a nice long dance-y set in the first hour, and I hope it helped others get their morning going right as well!

There was a good mix of new and old in there as well. I had to throw a Black Mountain tune into the mix as well, because they were just so dang good at Amigos the other day.

A New Name for Everything

Happy Thursday!

Today was a nice day in CFCR-adioland.

I had a trainee host in today named Jeff, and he was fantastic. During one host break, he made a great comment about taking care out there, and said "look out for pedestrians, fellow motorists, bicyclists, motorcylces, jugglers..." haha I had to muffle my giggle so I didn't bust out on-air. Too funny.

I love having trainees in, helping them learn the ins and outs, ups and downs. :) It feels like a long time ago, but only a mere five-ish years ago I was learning about all the knobs and doodads and proper radio procedures. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - CFCR is a wonderful family to be a part of. *warm fuzzies* We're always recruiting hosts (it's such a blast!) and being a member has rad perks.

A Heart Like Hers

Hi, hi.

Today's list was a blend of good time tunes and catharsis. It came together really holistically and has helped me fight away some blues I've been trying to ward off. Music is so wonderful for that! I found it went up and down like waves, which is some pretty cool imagery right there.

I also got to give away tickets to the upcoming Aidan Knight show this weekend. His new album is hauntingly beautiful. I featured upcoming shows like Jason Collett and Kalle Mattson, and lots of sweet Saskatoon songs.

This Life of Mine

Hello!

Another Thursday; another two hours of early morning music fun!

I had no real theme in mind while compiling this show. I had a mix of some newer tunes, and some 'classics' if I can use that term liberally. A couple from a few years ago and a few from a couple years ago.

Oh, and also, how the bleep is it the end of March?!

Speaking of awesome things - it's MEMBERSHIP DRIVE TIMES! That handy link gives tons of info, including a list of locations where you can pick your membership up over the course of the next two weeks. Of course, you can always renew online.

Things are kicking off tomorrow night with couple of great hometown bands at the Capitol!

The perks of being a member are plentiful, like ticket giveaways and random draws, but membership also signifies support for the city's only Community Radio Station. Varied programming, great music. Wonderful, I tells ya!

Okay, talk at ya in a weeks time.

Cheers!

Sharpest Diamond

Allo!

Well, the first month of 2016 is almost done. Today's show was all over the place, but I had fun putting this one together. Lotsa Sasky goodness, some rock, some folk, and some non-traditional picks. T'was a blast!

If you happened to tune into me today - apologies for my voice issues. I'm recovering from a cold, and still a bit raspy. The rest of the year can be ailment free now...

Today I started the show off with Tanya Tagaq. I saw her live last week along with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, thanks to some lovely pals o' mine who generously snagged me a ticket. All I have to say is wow. What an experience for the senses - so beyond captivating. I think I sat there with my mouth agape the whole time. It was lovely to see a drum group, and a drum and flute duo perform alongside as well.

Check out some really great links in this post for some information, pictures, and upcoming events.
