I'm Gonna Keep on Dancin'

Yesterday was another fun day on community radio in Saskatoon. :)

I was training a gal yesterday, and she picked a few tunes including Steph Cameron, Joel Plaskett, Luke Doucet, and The Shins. It's always really cool to be able to show budding hosts and volunteers how fun it is to run the doodads that help make radio magic. Thanks Jille!

I saw Hey Rosetta! and Stars on Monday and am still glowing from it all. Happy sigh. :) Arkells are in town tonight (February 27) along with Dear Rouge! That should be a sweet show!

Lots of cool things coming up in the next little while, including our joint event with USSU, the International Women's Day Fundraiser! And of course, Boys Rock for Girls Rock, which is local male-based bands covering girl bands. Is that not awesome!?  Both are for a great cause, and of which I am sadly missing since I'll be out of town. BUT you should go and I will live vicariously through all the awesome fun you'll be having!

Anyway, talk to you next Thursday, March 5!

There's lots of link love today, be sure to check it out. I feel all this info needs a bulleted list:
  • Volcanoless in Canada, a fantastic Saskatoon-based former/quasi-together band will be headlining Omfest, the 4th anniversary party for Ominocity. VIC's members have been very musically active with other endeavours, and it will be an awesome event, as per usual! It takes place on April 25.
  • Dan Mangan+Blacksmith will be here on March 6. I will be out of town, and I am le sad. But please go so I can enjoy it vicariously through others. :)
  • We Were Lovers - our hometown sweetheart pop duo will grace the Amigos stage this Saturday.
  • Hey Rosetta! and Stars will be at O'Brien's on Monday - I gave away tickets to that show this morning. Exciting stuff!
  • Regina's own Andy Shauf is TONIGHT, and it's sold out, so if you were one of the lucky ones to snag a ticket, you're in for a fantastic show filled with his lovely tunes and incomparable stage banter.
  • Father John Misty. This new album is so succinct and beautiful. I just love it. The link I shared is the full album stream from Sub-Pop via YouTube. Go enjoy!
  • Elliott BROOD is in Saskatoon tomorrow night with Wilderness of Manitoba. That will be a great show.
There's so much greatness coming up, including our International Women's Day event, which is always a great evening of celebration. Our Chinese New Year banquet is tonight too.

Also, if you're awake in the wee hours of Thursday you should listen in on the Homelessness Marathon, which will be broadcasting live from 1 am to 6 am. According to the CFCR website, this annual broadcast is shared by campus and community stations across Canada (there is also an American marathon) in an effort to raise awareness about homelessness in Canadian communities. The Marathon will include segments contributed by 14 stations representing six provinces.

Talk to you on Thursday, February 26!

You'll notice I shared a few handy dandy links. I played a few artists who have shows coming up pretty soon. Saskatoon's own Close Talker released a stunning video for their song For the Sun, which I played today. It makes Saskatoon look like the crown jewel of the prairies, which is arguably is! The Pistolwhips and Classy Chassys will be lovingly rocking out on the Amigos stage on Valentines Day, so if you wanna swoon to their musical wiles, I suggest you head to that sweetheart of a show. There's actually lots happening on VDay and otherwise, so check it out!

Well, done for another week.

Take care, and talk to you on February 19!

The page is a great central location for all things radio-station related, as it includes upcoming events, our program schedule, information about the history, cool features, and the list goes on. You should check it out! You can listen live from anywhere as well. :)

Anyway, take care, and see ya next week!
